Building History
"Derigny 16" offers student accommodation / rooms for international exchange students i.e. ERASMUS programme and is very conveniently located near the Athens University of Economics and Business (former ASOEE). It was built in the late 1910s, early 1920s and was initially used as a single residence. It was subsequently converted into separate flats, while the current owners acquired the building in 2016, refurbished it and converted the property into a student accommodation hall.
The building is listed both by the Ministry of Development and the Ministry of Culture and preserves several of its original features, as for example the colorful patterned floors with cement tiles, the decorated ceilings, the wooden panted walls, etc, that give the building aristocratic elegance and a mid 1900's Athens charm.

History of Henry de Rigny
The name of the street on which the three-storey urban apartment building is located, comes from Henri de Rigny (1782-1835). He was the commander of the French squadron at the Battle of Navarino in the Greek War of Independence at 1821. He was appointed Admiral in 1825, and raised his pennant in his flagship Sirène. In September 1827, the French government tasked him with the enforcement of the joint resolution by France, Russia, and England, who had united to wrest Greece from the Turkish rule. Henri de Rigny earned the title of the Cross of the Order of the Bath, the Order of St. Alexander Nevsky, and was promoted to Vice-Admiral.
